About OMIYA
Omiya was established in
1906. Founder, Shotaro
Sukeno came to Tokyo with a
big ambition to make Japanese
Kimono shop. He worked very
hard and finally he had a
Kimono shop in Kanda,
Tokyo.He was very ideal
business person, he found
installment plan, it is very
epoch-making sales.Omiya
grew up bigger but in 1925
there was a big earthquake in
Tokyo and his store got big
damage.
After that, Omiya rebuilt and
became bigger, then World War
2 had started. During WW2,
Shinhachiro Sukeno had to go to
War, he could not come back
after War was over. In 1945
Omiya was burned by Bonbing of
Tokyo.After Shinhachiro came
back to Japan, he started to work
for insurance company. He
always said he wanted to rebuild
Omiya, but he couldn't.
Kyoko, Shinhachiro's daughter,
came to U.S. in 2001. Her
started place was Brooklyn, New
York. She joined volunteer as
deliver meal for elder people.
One day, it was a Japanese
holiday for showing respect for
senior people, she made
origami crane ornament and
gave to her seniors. They liked it
very much and recommended
her to sell it. Then she started to
sell it on the street. Little by little,
by word of mouth, her business
grew up, and now some stores
is selling her products.
Everything her product has a
Japanese taste. Origami, Kanji,
Japanese washi paper,
Japanese fabric, etc. She is
selling her products as Omiya
brand
